West Bengal raises pay for contractual school staff from October 2026
The West Bengal government has increased the monthly remuneration for various categories of contractual employees working within the state’s school education system, with the revised pay effective from October 1, 2026.
The enhancement applies to contractual staff under the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission (PBSSM), Paschim Banga Rajya Sishu Shakti Mission (PBRSSM), the Directorate of School Education, and PM-POSHAN within the School Education Department.

According to an official release, the decision was made with the concurrence of the Finance Department and approval from the state Cabinet. The government indicated the measure aims to strengthen financial support for contractual employees working in the state’s education sector.
The raise affects personnel across various programmes and institutions under the School Education Department. The state’s 2026-27 budget documents also include provisions for expenditure related to PM-POSHAN, covering wages and administrative costs.
